Attractive stewardess, Jacke(Pam Grier), who supplements her income by smuggling cash into the country for gunrunner Ordell(Samuel L. Jackson) until the day a federal agent (Michael Keaton) busts her. The cops pressure her to help them bring down Ordell, threatening prison if she refuses. With a sympathetic bailbondsman Max (Robert Forster), who understands her restlessness only too well, Jackie arrives at a bold, almost foolhardy plan to play off these opposing forces against each other. Matters are complicated by Ordel's confederates, Louis (Robert De Niro) and Melanie (Bridget Fonda)who have an agenda of their own. By appearing to be cooperative with both sides, Jackie attempts to outfox them both and walks away a half million dollar payday.
