Ying (Cecilia Cheung) is notorious for her bitchy behaviors and meddling in others' family matters, especially those involving playboys or unfaithful husbands. Worried about her hopes of getting married, Ying's father (Zhao Benshan) decides to match her up with the town's smartest guy, Liang (Xiao Shenyang). After a heated debate on love, Ying and Liang agree to an outrageous wager: If he can remain faithful to her while living under the same roof for a year, the two will be allowed to consummate their marriage! Meanwhile, both the royal descendant Liu (Hui Siu Hung) and the powerful general Sima (Victor Huang) are eager to enlist Liang as their military strategist. When his offer is rejected, the treacherous Sima sends assassins to kill Liang, who barely escapes death thanks to the rescue of Ying. So Liang chooses to join the righteous Liu, and Ying helps him by infiltrating Sima's camp to kidnap his wife (Liu Yuqi). But when she brings her captive back to Liang, she catches him flirting with Liu's gorgeous sister (Zhang Xinyu)! As Ying leaves in heartbreak, she's caught by Sima's henchmen...
